Hasina will not be poor in Bangladesh: Hasina

There will be no homeless and poor people in Bangladesh. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced that all homeless homes will be provided.

The Prime Minister made the announcement at the inauguration ceremony of the construction work of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman tunnel and the elevated expressway under the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong port city.

The Prime Minister said, today Bangladesh is moving forward in an unprecedented progress. We have been able to develop so much development in the country because continuation of democracy and development has continued. We have been able to do so because people are beside us. The people were pleased with the development activities of the government and gave us an absolute victory in eleven parliamentary elections. We will implement every order of the people.

He said, we will continue the progress of the country. We will ensure the citizen benefits of all. There will be no homeless and poor people in the country. We will provide housing for the homeless people. Soon, electricity will reach every home in the country. An energy hub will be developed in Maheshkhali and Matarbari areas and one in paura. Further activities of oil-gas exploration will be taken in the Bay of Bengal. Bullet trains will be introduced in the country. We have already planned to ensure the maximum use of blue-economy or sea resources. We will work to implement this plan.

Pointing out the construction of a road tunnel under the Karnaphuli River, the Prime Minister said, we announced the construction of tunnels under the Karnaphuli river in Chittagong in 2010. In its continuation, in June 2014, a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Chinese government on the G-2G basis for signing a road tunnel under the Karnaphuli River was signed. In continuation of that commemoration, the Chinese government nominates a Chinese company for the channel creation. On June 30, 2015, the agreement was signed with the Chinese company with the Bangladesh Bridge Authority to build the tunnels. The construction work of the tunnel was inaugurated on October 14, 2016.

He said the main tunnel under the Karnaphuli river connects the Anowara upazila of Chittagong to the urban area with the addition of two tubes and 3.2 km long and 5,635 kilometers of Apollo road and 727 meter over bridge in the west and east end of the tunnel. The estimated cost of the project is 9.88 billion and 40 million taka. Among which the government of Bangladesh financed 3,967 million 21 lakh and the Chinese government has 5 thousand 913 million and 19 million taka. Presently the implementation of the tunnel project is progressing satisfactorily. Its physical physical progress is 32 percent.
The Prime Minister expressed hope that the country’s first tunnel will be completed in December 2022.

The Prime Minister said that the construction of Karnafuli tunnel will create modern communication between Dhaka-Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar and connect with Asian hierarchy. Development will be expedited in proposed industrial areas on the eastern side of Karnaphuli River. Connectivity with Chittagong City, Chittagong Port and Airport at the western end will be much easier and better. As a result, transport of raw materials of the industrial areas of the eastern end and transportation of Chittagong port, airport and northern part of the country will be easy. The communication system will bypass the main Chittagong city. This will reduce travel time and cost and reduce traffic congestion in Chittagong city. When Karnafuli tunnels are built, industrial development, tourism industry development and business expansion will be spread around the area. This will create massive job creation and increase exports. Improve the socio-economic development of this area and improve the living standards of the people and the overall economy of the country.

Sheikh Hasina said that there has been unprecedented development of the country in last 10 years. The quality of human life has improved. People are enjoying the benefits of development. Bangladesh is today the role model of development in the world. We have achieved the status of developing countries. Poverty rate is now reduced to 21.8 percent. The per capita income was $ 1,1751. Average life expectancy has increased by 72 years. GDP growth was up 7.78 percent. The foreign currency reserve has increased from 3 billion to the current 33 billion US dollars. We are contributing 90 percent of our development funding. Bangladesh is now one of the top five countries in the economic development index.
Power generation capability reached 20,885 MW 93 percent of people are getting electricity. We launched Bangabandhu Satellite 1. Work on the construction of a nuclear power plant and a metro area is underway. We are constructing Padma bridge with its own fund. There has been a lot of development of communication infrastructure in 10 years. The highways are being upgraded to four lanes. We have taken quick steps to implement ongoing development projects.

He said the work of establishing 100 economic zones has been going on. In these economic areas, local and foreign investors are coming for investment.

In 2020, the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and 2021 will celebrate the great festivals of great independence.
